Seems to me that what is holding this project back is:
* Lack of time for the people with "the right" skills.
* Lack of skills (but not always money) for people with time to spare.
What about setting up a Paypal account and accepting donations? - then these Donations could be made specific to certain topics like Linux support and/or Mac support.
